Marcela Iriarte  |  Collage Art

"Marcela Iriarte's passion for collage took form at the Academy of Fine Art of Rome, where she developed and refined her artistic style and research.

Her subsequent studies in set design at Italy’s National Film School and her love for cinema, together with her work experience as set designer for film and television in several international productions, defined not only her subjects, but also the silver screen-like atmosphere in her paintings and installations.

Her work explores the idea of memorabilia applied to the art of glued paper. How far can our memory betray us? Where is the limit between lived memories and dreamt remembrances?

Assembling different shapes taken from photo albums, pictures, newspapers, film posters, bits of colored hand-made paper, portions of other artwork, and such, glued to a canvas or a box, her work recreates a new past.

She follows the paths of an obsessive collector but instead of conserving she cuts and pastes, recreating new layers of the same imagined dream.

She currently lives and works between London and Paris, where she has also collaborated with several well known visual artists."
